Faux Gingerbread

We decided to make gingerbread houses with my brother and his family while we were visiting for the Holidays.
We didnt bake real gingerbread. Instead we used Graham crackers as the base. Covered in candy and icing who would know anyway?
Mr. RedMarionette took the non-traditional approach of using candy corn to set his on fire. He claims it started with the candy corn campfire in the front of the house and spread.

Here you can see an action shot of the fire spreading rapidly to the roof.

I took a more traditional approach with a half pitched roof covered in almond slivers. My flat roof side however had to have extensive repair work as it collapsed from the massive amount of chocolate chips and coconut snow. Who would have thought there would have been too much weight due to coconut snow?!
My peppermint lighthouse on the roof was the crowning moment if me finishing and trying to get a photo before everything fell apart! :)
The entire family had a blast and it was amazing to me how different everyone made their houses. I love creative people!

Looking Forward

Mr. Red Marionette and I are thawing out from our visit to family this year. As some of you know we live in Orlando, FL and when visiting the blizzard ravaged areas of Kansas it makes for quite a shock to the system. I have a double ear infection, unfortunately, but returned otherwise unscathed. I love seeing family and visiting with all of them. It was truly a needed break.
I feel refreshed (except for the occasional pain pill) and I am ready to plan and make goals for Red Marionette for 2010.
Holiday merchandise will stay in the store throughout the year, but Red Marionette will also be adding tote bags this year. A new design and style will be introduced in a variety of color and fabric combinations. Mr. Snuggledoodles HERE will be the same style.
I am also trying to expand into some housewares type items this year. Still in the brainstorming process for those.
I also have made upcycled vintage bed linens into little pouches and wallets. Those will be brought out soon as well! As usual I am trying to keep things fresh and new.
Later in the year I will have more lions, chipmunks, walrus and various other new additions to the Red Marionette litter of critters.

Later I shall post photos of our Gingerbread House Expo! (We didnt really use gingerbread, we used graham crackers but the intention was the same) My Nephew, Niece, Brother, Sister in Law and my Husband all had wonderful time (and me of course!)

Atomic Holiday Bazaar 2009

Atomic Holiday Bazaar this year was a blast!
I had a table space at the Saturday evening show and a booth space at the Sunday show. Here is Mr. RedMarionette in the booth space and I am standing at the table space. LOTS of color.

We got to vend next to our good friends ElleBelleOnEtsy and had a wonderful time spent with them.
It was great to see all of the new goodies people had out this year compared to last year. We have some creative ladies here!

Perpetual Pickles had some wonderful canned pickles that were Sweet hot and Garlic Dill. The Crafty Hag was on our other side and she always has amazing stuff. Go check out her cute little yeti's!

It was such a fun experience pushing myself to get all of the products done, maintaining the stock for the show and Etsy. I learned a lot about myself, my marketing, my capabilities and many other things.

I had a wonderful customer purchase my owl centerpiece. Goodbye Mr. Owl. I shall have to make a counterpart for any shows I may do next year! He certainly catches attention. Maybe a bat again instead of an owl.

More photos can be found on my flickr site here: Red Marionette Atomic
Go take a gander!

Once again I'd like to thank everyone for their support this year! Its been a very tough year for a lot of people. Keep your chin up, make do and mend and if you are going to buy, buy handmade! Merry Christmas!

Hello World! Its Christmas Time!

I know I have been remiss in my blogging duties. I apologize.
Christmas has been full swing in Red Marionette world, the studio is all populated with felt critters, tubs of little faces staring out at me in stacks as tall as my shoulder. Glitter has migrated fully into the land of the kitchen space, the bedroom space and now on to the cat.
What a joyful season!
We have done little REAL decorating at Red Marionette headquarters. The palm trees outside the house got a twinkly light makeover on Thanksgiving due to Mr. Red Marionette and his father. That is as far as we got. I am in a slight grump about that as I was hoping to have space to put up my Christmas tree but no such luck this year. No time. I hope the festive Christmas-joo-joo forgives me!
I am substituting my home decorating with my Craft show booth decorating. At Atomic Holiday Bazaar this coming weekend I will be setting up a little vignette. A cardboard fireplace, a chair draped with tree skirts and nestled amongst stuffed animals and pocket peepers. Stockings will be hung with care. Wreaths will be displayed......A tree decorated with my ornaments. The whole setup will be my version of Holiday decorating. I promise photos early next week of this event.
Please support Handmade this Holiday season!
Come get some goodies from my store before I unlist them all for the show this weekend, too!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
